Complete Mihimihi Collage
Final Composition:
I am happy with my final composition although the printed copy came out quite dark, and the way I edited the background images looks less effective.
This Mihimihi Collage explores the ties between me and my family and how these relationships and external influences shape us as people. The focus being more on how I became how I am as a person with some subtle images representing my family and I's interests. To begin the family quite obviously represent mine - I used the old fashioned photo to represent how cliche and boring the concept of family can be. I used a TV to start explaining how my family varies from this cliche image; the TV brings a modernization to the composition and represents technology which in today's society is a key part to my families life and connectivity as we are not all geographically close. This concept inspired the "goo", the goo represents the concoction of miscellaneous objects, experiences and feelings that tie us all together - illustrated by it wrapping around our bodies shows how we are tied together. The goo extends out beyond the table coiling around a tree showing how we influence our external environment and similarly the waterfall is flowing into it to represent how our environment shapes who we are. The background photos are images I've taken from experiences with my family. The flower in the centre of the "table" is a begonia I used this image because my grandparents are in the begonia club and I used it to show both the growth and blossoming of us as a family and as individuals from what we are exposed to in our lives/the goo in this collage.
