Physical Experimentation

The beginning of my process began with getting back in touch with the glue stick and scissors. I explored many of the Fundamental Design Principles without having any particular end outcome in mind.

Collage One:
I constructed this with very limited resources-magazines dug out of old closets hoarded from my primary school years.

This piece I was trying to experiment with:
Contrast: I found the contrast of photographs to to the sketches of flowers and the bridal veil quite effective too.
Rhythm: through the repetition of the cube shape from the wall hangings to the chocolate squares (in relation to Mihimihi-my favourite food).

 Collage 2:
With my second collage I tried to incorporate the use of images that were more relative to who I am and my story. I searched through images of my time living in South America.
This collage developed my understand of the FDP of visual flow and balance. As although when I was designing the image the most eye-catching being Machu Picchu and the seeing the sand dunes through the salt flats my eye naturally was drawn to the pattern and flow of the sand dunes.
Contrast: I wanted to design this piece to explore the contrast of shapes and textures. Also  colour- it became apparent to me that colour is very important and that if i had been working digitally or if I had edited the Machu Picchu image brighter this may have effected the whole effect of the piece.

Collage 3:
After looking at Kerry-Ann's work in class I became interested in developing a sense of space/ a room with collage.
I also began to explore symbolism by locating items that although are not exact images from my life collectively represent who I am as a person.
In this image I used the hand to symbolise how the people in my life support me and allow me to love the life I do. I also used the mirror over my face to suggets that I am a product of my surroundings and how the things I hear/see/feel/do influence and shape my individuality.
My previous collage was quite muted so I also experimented with making this one busier. But I think the proportions were off, so for me there is no main focal point in the image.

Collage 4:
These images were me having fun with perspective and contrast. Perspective and Contrast in size I found very visually effective and open ended-as in they could tell a lot of different stories.

Collage 5:
This collage is my first experiment with Photoshop. I repeated an image of me and used other images of people and events that have helped me to grow (symbolised by the flower in the third frame) into who I am today.
Contrast: I also revisited the contrast between photo and sketch from Collage 1.
I also wanted to experiment with a more physical texture, embroidery is something my Nana and I would do together so I wanted to experiment with how that would look visually with the image.
